CRP Subsea (formerly Trelleborg Offshore UK) awarded contract by Seaway 7 to provide NjordGuard cable protection to Vattenfall’s Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm project in the Netherlands

CRP Subsea (formerly Trelleborg Offshore UK) has been awarded a contract by Seaway 7, the renewables business unit of Subsea 7, to provide 281 NjordGuard cable protection systems for Vattenfall’s Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm project, located in the North Sea, Netherlands. These will protect the inner-array power cables for 140 monopile wind turbines, as well as the array cables at the points where they meet the two offshore substations on the project, from over-bending, abrasion and fatigue.

Daniel Bate, Sales Manager for renewables at CRP Subsea, states: “We are delighted Trelleborg has been selected by Seaway 7 to supply NjordGuard cable protection systems across all four Hollandse Kust Zuid project sites. The award follows continuous efforts, working collaboratively with the team at Seaway 7 to optimise the NjordGuard cable protection system package and offer synergies across the project.”

Production of the 281 NjordGuard cable protection system will take place in CRP Subsea’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in the North West of England.

NjordGuard Subsea cable protection

NjordGuard is an integrated cable protection system designed and developed to protect offshore wind farm power cables in wind turbine generators and offshore substation platforms. Easily assembled on a vessel to allow speedy installation, the system’s highly abrasion resistant API 17L certified Uraduct® material enables it to travel over the seabed without damage, extending cable life. Most importantly, it facilitates easier installation, reuse and removal without diver and ROV intervention, optimising efficiency and maximising safety.

With its installed capacity of 1,500 MW, Vattenfall’s Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm will be the largest of its kind worldwide when fully operational in 2023, and the first to be developed without government subsidies.
