CRP Subsea (formerly Trelleborg Offshore UK) awarded offshore wind contract by Ørsted

CRP Subsea (formerly Trelleborg Offshore UK) has been awarded a contract by Ørsted to provide NjordGuard, an integrated cable protection system, for the Greater Changhua 1 & 2a offshore wind farms in Taiwan. CRP Subsea (formally Trelleborg Offshore UK) will provide 235 NjordGuard cable protection systems and bellmouths, which will protect all inter array and export cables on the projects.

Andy Smith, Product Group Manager for renewables at CRP Subsea, states: “This is a significant achievement that marks our continued growth in renewables; a market we recognise is crucial for the world’s future energy needs. This major award continues CRP Subsea’s (formally Trelleborg Offshore UK)  excellent relationship with Ørsted following our six-year framework for providing NjordGuard Cable Protection System on their future projects.’’

Ørsted to provide NjordGuard, an integrated cable protection system

Production of the 235 NjordGuards and bellmouths will take place in CRP Subsea’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in the North West of England. Project engineering works will commence immediately, with installation activities scheduled for execution in 2021.

The Greater Changhua 1 & 2a offshore wind farms comprise 111 turbines installed on jacket foundations and have a combined total capacity of 900 MW. The two wind farms are located 35 and 60 kilometers off the west coast of Changhua County, Taiwan.

NjordGuard is an integrated cable protection system designed and developed to protect offshore windfarm power cables in wind turbine generators and offshore substation platforms. Easily assembled on a vessel to allow speedy installation, it’s highly abrasion resistant API 17L certified Uraduct® material enables the protection system to travel over the seabed without damage, thereby providing protection to the cable system. Most importantly, it facilitates easier installation, reuse and removal without diver and ROV intervention, optimising efficiency and maximising safety.
